The Conductor (2005)
Summer, 2005
West Virginian Railway
Captured in the summer of 2005 aboard the West Virginian Railway, The Conductor is a study in departure.
The photograph is taken from the darkness inside the train, looking outward toward the fading platform. An aging conductor stands on the caboose, reduced to silhouette as the train pulls away from the station. His figure is steady. Familiar. Ritualistic.
Though his face is hidden, something in his posture speaks — of repetition, of years measured not in calendars but in departures and arrivals. He has stood there countless times before, watching towns recede, watching lives continue without him.
The train moves forward.
He remains still.
This is a portrait of duty, of memory, of a man whose life has been lived between whistles.
